2009
So, I’ve recently decided that my portfolio website is in serious need of a redesign, and seeing as I’ve got a relatively quiet week coming up, I figured now was as good a time as any to get started with it.
First, the decisions:
Should I continue to use ModX? Should I use Wordpress? Should I try something completely different?
In the end, I decided that ModX was still the way to go, due to my familiarity with it, and the fact that it IS perfectly suited for that sort of thing. Couple that with the fact that they’ve recently released the updated version (finally), and I figured that was the best way to go.
Second, the ‘aesthetics’:
What do I want the site to look like? What colours do I want to use? What sort of layout to go for?
I decided that I would stick with the 2 column layout, but incorporate a horizontal navigation bar, with the sub-navigation in a vertical list where the main navigation currently is.
The logo will remain obviously, but everything else on the site will be given a complete overhaul. Colour wise, I’m still going with blacks, greys etc, as I happen to like them, and they suit me. However there will be changes.
- Custom bullets for any lists – Yep.
- Custom Twitter feed icon(s) – Yep.
- Custom RSS icon(s) – Yep.
- Annoying flashy effects – Nope.
- Useless features – Nope.
Watch this space for updates.
